Kid’s Chiropractic

Helping your child grow into a happy and healthy adult.

When should I bring my child to a chiropractor?

Many parents bring their newborns in right away. Some neuromuscularskeletal problems seen in adults begin as early as birth; the birthing process itself can cause stress to the infant’s muscular, skeletal, and nervous system. This can result in many newborn health complaints such as; nursing difficulties, colic, sleep disturbances, breathing problems, and constipation.

As the infant grows and develops - learning to hold up the head, rolling over, sitting, crawling, and walking are all important milestones to have a child checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic.

As children grow it is important to make sure there is balance in their neuromuscularskeletal systems. Imbalances during this period may be as obvious as common conditions in babies (colic, constipation, plagiocephaly (flattening of the skull), etc) or lead to more problems later in life such as scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine). Chiropractic checkups during these times of growth and development will allow the proper treatment and help avoid complaints seen later in adults.

As children start to participate in activities or sports, chiropractic can play an important role. A common reason parents seek care for their children is trauma or injury. It should also be noted that kids may or may not have pain or symptoms; parents may notice signs that should be evaluated that don’t include pain ie – walking on toes, walking with a limp, a protective posture, poor posture/"text neck"/slouching, balance issues, or concussion symptoms to name a few.

Parents also seek our assistance in educating their kids on posture, stretches/exercises, and general health.

What is a treatment like?

It is important to understand that the Doctor of Chiropractic does not treat diseases; where our expertise lies is in diagnosing and treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions. The chiropractor will take a thorough history and perform a physical assessment of your child and present you with a report of findings. We will then present you with a treatment plan and the risks and benefits of those treatments. We will also make you aware of alternative treatments and obtain your informed consent.

Chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to fit a child’s size, weight, and unique condition. Adjustments are gentle, safe, and specific. We offer manual and instrument assisted techniques appropriate for the size of the child. Most parents report their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and look forward to subsequent visits.
