Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic is a hands-on therapy aimed at treating the source of musculoskeletal problems, not just the symptoms.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural, non-invasive, hands-on health care profession; it literally means “Done by Hand”. Chiropractors are trained to effectively examine, diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions related to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and joints of the body.
At Active Living, our approach to Chiropractic is unique. Our treatments are aimed at treating the source of the musculoskeletal problems, not just the symptoms. Our physical examination includes a selective functional movement assessment (SFMA) that detects abnormal movement patterns that increase the likelihood of injury.
So what makes our approach different? We use a multi-faceted approach to treatment that includes traditional Chiropractic (joint manipulation and mobilization) along with soft tissue therapies (Active Release Techniques® and Graston Technique®), Laser Therapy, Neuro-proprioceptive taping (Kinesio Tape), and specific rehabilitation exercises (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization®) to help our patients achieve the best results. We also collaborate with other professionals to ensure you have the best treatment plan possible.

Chiropractors are also trained in treating extremities. At Active Living Chiropractic our favourite areas to treat are: shoulders, elbows, wrists, ankles, knees and hips
Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)
The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a series of 7 full-body movement tests designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement such as bending and squatting in those with known musculoskeletal pain. When the clinical assessment is initiated from the perspective of the movement pattern, the clinician has the opportunity to identify meaningful impairments that may be seemingly unrelated to the main musculoskeletal complaint, but contribute to the associated disability. This concept, known as Regional Interdependence, is the hallmark of the SFMA.
The assessment guides the clinician to the most dysfunctional non-painful movement pattern, which is then assessed in detail. This approach is designed to complement the existing exam and serve as a model to efficiently integrate the concepts of posture, muscle balance and the fundamental patterns of movement into musculoskeletal practice. By addressing the most dysfunctional non-painful pattern, the application of targeted interventions (manual therapy and therapeutic exercise) is not adversely affected by pain.
SFMA offers doctors and physical therapists a new approach to the treatment of pain and dysfunction. Our standardized clinical model ensures isolating the cause of injury and efficient care.
Meet The Chiropractors at Active Living Chiropractic
“I haven't been to a chiropractor in many years because getting my back and neck adjustment freaks me out. This was a much different experience, everything was explained ahead of time, and there were no surprises. I walked out with way less pain, and rebooted.”
