Dynamic Cupping!

This wonderful treatment is offered in our clinic by Janine Henry and Ben Granger.

Cupping therapy is one of the oldest and most effective method of soft tissue manipulation on the body. Basically, silicone cups are used to create negative pressure and are dragged or placed over the body in areas of restriction. You can expect it to feel similar to a deep tissue massage in terms of any discomfort felt during treatments. In Asia, during the Jin dynasty, Ge Hong (281-341 CE) mentions the use of animal horns. Also it has been popular in Greek bronze era where they used the bronze cups. There has been proof of cupping found all over the ancient world.

Cupping therapy has been used for improving health, preventive, and therapeutic purposes. Cupping therapy has reported benefits in the treatment of lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headache and migraine, depression, anxiety, knee pain, facial paralysisbrachialgiacarpal tunnel syndrome, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma. These diseases can be categorized into localized diseases (neck pain, lower back pain, and knee pain, chronic pain, restricted range of motion, adhesions in muscles, skin, or fasica, chronic injuries) and systematic diseases (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis).

Then what are the benefits of cupping?

  • Cupping helps to reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Used for relaxation, well being and deep tissue massage.

  • It is safe, non invasive and inexpensive treatment.

  • Facilitates healing process and strengthens immune system.

  • Cupping helps to increase the blood flow to sore muscles.

  • It provides necessary nutrients to the area being treated, promotes healing.

  • Cupping can provide pain relief and help ease the symptoms of many common disorders of the bones and muscles. It does this by exciting small nerves inside muscles so that they release pain-killing chemicals.

  • Cupping Therapy can be very relaxing and help to reduce muscular restrictions, scars and adhesions, to decrease swelling, increase range of motion.

Cupping is a low-risk therapy. The side effects will typically occur during your treatment or immediately after. Lightheadedness or dizziness, sweating or nausea may be experienced. After treatment, the skin around the rim of the cup may become irritated and marked or bruised in a circular pattern, this is painless, however skin may be more sensitive for a few hours after treatment.

Who can NOT get dynamic cupping?

In general, cupping is contraindicated directly on veins, arteries, nerves, skin inflammation, any skin lesion, body orifices, eyes, lymph nodes, or varicose veins. Cupping is also contraindicated on open wounds, bone fractures, and sites of deep vein thrombosis.
